Second Shoot

We managed to film most of the scenes that we needed with a few problems that we encountered with filming the scenes. The opening montage sequence were shot as planned. The only problems were with the police station as we were not allowed to film outside the station and we were unable shoot the scene with the door as we could not find Someone to let us film the door.

On the Friday we found a location for this scene using Tom Williams room we managed to get the full scene of the chief's phone conversational with dean's friend playing the part of the Secretary. except for the few mistakes i was pleased in how much we have and how much we have yet to do.

In today's lesson we began uploading the new footage onto the macs and we finally managed to order the sequence of the shots and editing the ident to our preference.

Discussion and Coming up to the second shoot

In class we discussed what we needed to do in order to complete the Day scenes of the crime drama.we booked the camera for the weekend but we decided to shoot on the Friday evening and the Saturday morning as we only needed

To Do List
  • Montage shots for the opening title sequence
  • (XCU) of right eye for p1(1st personality) the police officer
  • Low angle shot of p1 entering the police HQ
  • (CU) on door handle as he enters the office.
We agreed that we shoot the (Dean) chief's phone conversation with Secretary on the Friday afternoon as the atmosphere and lighting will create a better mood for the scene.

Locations
Friday - a classroom in the college it doesn't really matter as long we have a window sill and a window to look out from.
Saturday - (in the city centre) Preferably the German market will be our location for the opening montage sequence as we expect many people to come on the Saturday. For the police station we discussed that we will shoot outside an actual police station in the city centre (with permission).

First Shoot

In the first shoot the camera was booked overnight and it went well we managed to get all the night shots that we wanted plus some other shots i discovered. i managed to persuade an office which was directly above the alley and we got a high angle shot from one of their windows.

We did come across some problems with the camera as it did not work properly while i was shooting the first half of the night sequence. however we decided that we will have to shoot the scenes that we missed the next time we book the camera.

We all had a good time especially the people who acted for us(we only had 3 actors). they were amazed that we were only going to use 3 minutes even though we filmed for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Coming up to the first shoot.

Our team decided on thursday we do our first shoot. we did have a few problems finding actors to play the part of the side kick. in the end we found someone who fits the part. i an going to check our location and see if there are any other shots that i may find. i also found an office that has an overview of the allyway were the shooting is going to take place and the manager that owns the office have us permission to shoot from the office window. When we complete the footage Fahimah with the help of Dean will both be editing the footage. i am confident that we shall complete the first sequence which is the chase scene hopefully in one piece.

Discussion

This week in our lesson we discussed how and when we were going to shoot our crime drama. i decided to use my shot list as a check list to unsure that i have all the shots that we need. on the other hand, we also discussed that there might be a few extra shots that we might stumble on as we film the sequence. within our discussion we pointed out some problems that will occur while shooting the sequence. For example, while shooting the sequence in a low key environment because there might be a risk of the shot coming out grainy so as a solution to this Shamima is bringing a torch in to brighten our scene.

Currently i have a main character, a person to play the female dead body, and a police chief. The only character is left to find is a person to play the side kick. i have a some possible candidates but a few are unsure whether they can make it.

Feedback

Last week we received feedback from our presentation. majority of the feedback was positive and for the negative feedback our problems were. the narrative was a bit confusing and this was probably due to the fact that one character had two personalities and i think that is what made it confusing. Another problem/negative that we had that linked to the first problem however it could also be a possible solution is that we need to simplify or create a background story to the narrative. Th e final problem was that we needed to think about channeling our crime drama to an audience the final feedback made a lot of sense however we did have an audience but we did not have enough time to mention it in our presentation. Personally i thought the feedback was a great way to improve and progress in making our crime drama better its also a good way to tie up the loose ends to our project.

Filming The Sequence
Our group discussed how the opening sequence was going to be filmed and the shots needed to create the sequence. The P1 and P2 stands for Personalities 1 and 2.
  • In the opening of the scene there will be a montage sequence (portraying the busy life in the city) this will also establish the environment where the scene will be shot.
  • P.O.V -The next scene is where (P2)is standing over the body and this where a P.O.V and a (CU) shot of both the female victim and (P2) is going to create that sense of understanding that he is the killer/criminal.
  • Over Shoulder - once we establish that he is the criminal. An over shoulder shot of (P2),as the side kick walks by noticing the crime AND THE CHASE BEGINS.
  • High Angle of (P2) running out of the street/ally-way (LS).
  • Pan of (P2) running into the main road while (Whip Pan)the side kick chases after him(LS).
  • Tracking shot of both the side kick and (P2) while running (MLS).
  • When (P2) turns into a corner while the side kick follows him round. However, once we see the other side of the corner we only see the sidekick running in the same direction(MLS).
  • Then (P2) steps out of the darkness and the change over occurs.
  • A XCU of the left eye then a XCU of the right eye to show the change over of the two personalities.
  • Low angle (P1) entering the police HQ (LS)
  • The chief having a conversation on the phone “We need our best man on this case send him in”. (MS) on the chief.
  • CU on door handle and (MLS) on the door then (P1) walks in through the door.

END OF SEQUENCE

Setting

Shamima gave us a task to find a setting of where it is going to take place and we managed to find a few possible location (with the help of Dean) for our opening sequence.

This picture is an establishing shot of Birmingham's skyline.

this is a possible location where the chase scene is going occur i found at the back entrance of the Pallasades in the City centre.

This is another location for the chase scene.

This was an alleyway which i found round the corner from where the Pallasades was. This place would be great for when the change over happens

The opening sequence to the first episode of a new TV Crime Drama

In this assignment we were put in groups of four including our team leader which in our case was Shamima. She allocated job roles and my part in this assignment is the director of photography or camera-man for short, Dean's part is editing, and fahimah is working with sound. In our first lesson of coming up with an idea we used the 6 thinking hats by Edward de Bono to help us manage our ideas. The first hat which was blue only aided our team leader it explained what was needed from Shamima what she needed to do to keep control and observe the ideas in an open minded perspective. The other 5 helped us finalise the ideas that we were coming up with like for example, Red - our intuitions (feelings),Green - creativity,Yellow - Brightness (benefits of the idea),White - Information (were and when its going to take place), and the last hat Black - it is the final evaluation of the idea were we discuss if there was a downside to this idea. These hats helped us to establish a constructive plan to create our master piece (our opening sequence).

Our Idea

The idea for our opening sequence is a police officer by the name of Lt (Lieutenant) James Parker who suffers from MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). Parker has only two personalities. The main personality is the police officer and the second personality is the criminal who kills his victim in the first few seconds of the opening sequence. The main personality is unaware of the criminal mastermind held within him. Although, the criminal is aware that of the other personality.

Ten Shot Challenge: Review of the Best Clip

The best ten shot clip that i seen was 'After Hours' by idriss, Shabana, Romina, and Aneesa. My opinion is their clip was astonishing because the short clip that they created reminded me of a teaser trailer of a very tense thriller movie. the best thing about this short clip is the serene and tense atmosphere it creates and that is what makes this clip the best.

Ten Shot Challenge: Editing Stage 2

The second editing stage and the last and final edition to the ten shot challenge. Our group did not complete editing our ten shot clip of the tour guide. Also the video was saved on only one computer thus slowing us down even further. Although, we did manage to put the digitized clips into sequence and add some transitions between the clips by this time it was already time to view the end products of our ten shots and our group lacked a sound track to go with the tour guide video. In the end we decided that there will be no sound.

If we managed to have complete the video we would managed to use a new program called Live-type this software allow you to add text to your video either on blank screen like we see many times used as credits or on top of the actual clip itself like a title for example.

Ten Shot Challenge: Editing Stage

Our group in media lesson was given a task to edit our clips of our ten shot that we created of the tour guide of Joseph Chamberlain College. To make this task easier our teacher split us up further into two groups so we each have a have our own outcomes of how the footage should be edited. Our two groups took turns on digitizing the footage that we needed (the ten shots) on to the apple Mac computers. I found this stage difficult to grasp in the beginning of the lesson but as the lesson progressed I got used to the programme and it became easier to digitize. In the end we managed to finish digitizing all of our ten shots.

Ten Shot Challenge

In my media lesson we were put in groups of four. Our instructions were to create a short clip only using ten different shots. Our group came up with the idea of making a short clip of a tour guide of the college. We spent half an hour roaming the college for ten good shots which helps out the new college students.
